Visit Oak Glen - Road Trip

Apple picking near Los Angeles? Yep, it’s a thing—and it’s awesome! Sure, your friends from the Northwest or East Coast might raise an eyebrow, but just because LA fall comes with sunshine and 90-degree days doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a proper autumn outing.

Just a short drive away, Oak Glen is a charming mile-high town nestled in the mountains near Palm Springs. It gets snow in the winter, boasts crisp mountain air, and—most importantly—grows some seriously delicious apples. It’s the perfect spot for a fun, family-friendly apple-picking day trip. And once your basket is overflowing, you’ll want to dig into these drool-worthy apple recipes!  Click here for more info.

View Fall Foliage in Wrightwood

If Wrightwood sounds familiar, it's probably because it's home to Mountain High, California’s most visited ski resort. But before the snow starts falling, this mountain town turns into a dreamy fall escape. Tucked away in the Angeles National Forest, Wrightwood is just a scenic 1.5-hour drive from LA up Highway 2—and it's well worth the trip.

The crisp mountain air, golden leaves, and charming small-town vibes make it the perfect spot for a cozy autumn day. You’ll find plenty of hiking trails, but if the kids aren’t up for a big trek, a simple stroll through the town center does the trick. Stop by the Grizzly Cafe for lunch—or better yet, roll in for a late breakfast and treat yourself to their famous cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate (fall perfection!). Then, pop into some local shops like the GA Mercantile for a bit of browsing.

Before heading home, take a quick 10-minute drive up Big Pines Highway to Jackson Lake, where you can walk, picnic, fish, or just soak in those gorgeous fall colors.

View Fall Foliage in Lake Arrowhead

Tucked away in the San Bernardino National Forest, Lake Arrowhead is a year-round gem—but fall is when it really puts on a show. The changing leaves light up the mountains with bursts of red, orange, and gold, making it a perfect autumn escape.

Take a scenic drive along Route 173, which winds around the lake and through the mountains, offering plenty of jaw-dropping views before looping you back into the village—just in time for a cozy bite or warm drink.

And if you’re visiting in October, don’t miss the town’s beloved Lake Arrowhead Oktoberfest! It’s family-friendly, festive, and packed with seasonal fun, running through the end of the month.

Tanka Farms Pumpkin Patch 2025 |  Irvine | September 13 - November 2, 2025

Tanaka Farms is a fall favorite—and one of the rare spots where LA kids can pick their very own pumpkin straight off the vine! Weekdays offer a fun-filled tractor-pulled wagon ride past friendly farm animals and even a pumpkin cannon, all leading up to hands-on pumpkin and veggie picking.

Planning a weekend visit? Just make sure to grab a parking pass online in advance—it's required starting Friday at noon through the weekend. Swing by Monday through Friday morning, and parking is totally free. Click here for more info.

Gilchrist Farm | Santa Clarita | September 27 - November 2, 2025

Get ready for some serious fall fun at Gilchrist Farm’s annual harvest festival! With a pumpkin patch open every day, it’s the perfect spot to soak up that autumn vibe—and best of all, parking and admission are totally free.

The weekends in October are where the magic really happens, featuring wool spinning demos, goat milking shows, pig races, live music, tasty concessions, and so much more.

But don’t worry if you’re visiting during the week—there’s still plenty to keep the kiddos entertained with pony rides, archery, axe throwing, gold mining, a hay bale maze, wagon rides, and a charming farm train. We love making this festive farm visit a yearly tradition! Click here for more info.
